Wiring my system, please help!?
Ok, I have searched youtube and the internet everywhere. HOW THE HELL DO YOU connect speaker wire together. I am getting very frustrated. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp?submitted=true&woofer_qty=2&woofer_imp=1 I am going to be wiring up subs very soon here and it looks like I need to connect speaker wire to itself or how do I do this. Do I need to solder, crimp, etc. I am very confused and have spent alot of money on my system. I have 2 Rockford Fosgate P3D412 Subwoofers which are 4 ohm dual voice coil, that I am hooking up to my Rockford Fosgate P1000-1bd Amp with the Rockford Fosgate 4 gauge amplifier hookup. It comes with 16 AWG speaker wire. How do I wire this to a 4 Ohm load? The diagram I understand but how do I actually WIRE it together? Please help, I would greatly appreciate it.
when connecting speaker wire to another piece of speaker wire, you can do it a couple of ways. you can solder it like you mentioned, you can use electrical tape, or you can use a butt splice or a wire nut. i personally prefer wire nuts because they come off easy if you need to do some work on your system.
when i put mine in, the only speaker wire i had to fool with was from the back of the speaker box to the amp. i cut and stripped the ends and put a crimp on terminal that looks like a ring terminal with a piece missing. they fit nicely into the space between terminal and screw on my amp, they looked nice and clean, and are much easier to take out and put back that exposed wires.
i used 16G wire for two 10' rf subs. it worked fine. but i did have to butt splice on a peice of 18G wire right at the end to fit in my speaker bx. i havent found a substitete for that yet. any questions just ask. good luck.
and i like the below answer alot.
