How do I prouduce Tabbypoint BSH kittens from a Blue Colourpoint female. What stud can I use?
Can I use a Self Tabby boy or do I need a Tabby point boy? Please help.
Your pointed boy would obviously carry the point gene. He is a confirmed Color Point Carrier (CPC), as is the mother since she already has points, as well. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious here. However, that does not necessarily mean that points would show in the kittens. The Self Tabby may or may not be a CPC. It would depend on if there was at least one pointed parent in his lineage-- then he would have at least a 50% chance of having the gene. If you breed a non-CPC to a CPC, then half the resulting kittens would be CPC's but not necessarily pointed. Further, there is no guarantee that any resulting pointed kittens would be blue or tabby or any other color. Remember that blue is actually a "dilute seal" which is on the "black" gene. You could wind up with seals, as well as blues and possibly the Lynx (Tabby) points you want.
For my nickel, I would use the Tabby (Lynx) Point tom because he already is known to carry the Colorpoint gene and hope for the best. Cat color genetics are very complicated! You could also wind up with a variety of different Lynx colors-- Blue Lynx, Chocolate Lynx, Seal Lynx for instance.
Have fun!!
