How to Fix a Corrupt Boot Sector in Microsoft Windows?
Is your Microsoft Windows hard drive partition inaccessible? Is Disk Administrator showing the partition as 'unknown'? Well, this problem may occur due to corrupt or damaged boot sector of hard drive partition. In such cases, your Windows hard drive partition become totally unusable and you can not extract stored data from it. It leads to significant partition loss situations and needs partition recovery to be resolved, if there is no backup in place.
Microsoft Windows operating system enables you to replace the damaged boot sector with backup copy of the partition boot sector. Before you replace the damaged boot sector with the backup of boot sector, you should bear in mind that the following two conditions must meet:
You must have NTFS file system on your hard drive. FAT file system currently doesn't keep backup copy of Windows boot sector.
You must be capable of booting your computer to Windows NT.
However, you may face critical problems if your Windows boot sector is corrupt or missing in a way that information in Primary Boot sector backup is severely damaged, missing, or damaged. In such cases, you can try fixing this problem using the below methods:
Select the problem drive using Disk Probe utility. You can use the Disk Administrator tool to find out the ordinal of hard drive.
Double click the drive that you want to view. Uncheck the Read Only option and select Set Active button. Then click OK button.
From Sectors menu, choose Read and then insert 0 for the starting sectors and 1 for the number of sectors. And then click Read.
Select View Partition Table from View menu. Then select the partition number that is affected.
Find the valid sector number and enter it.
Exit Disk Probe and reboot your system.
