I want to mount a toggle switch on to the Bose 901 series three equalizer, how would i do that?
I noticed that my Bose 901 series 3 equalizer stays on all the time, due to its original design its supposed to plug in to the host Bose receiver. Can any one suggest a schematic that would allow me to add a toggle switch or a rocker switch, cause a rotary lamp cord cant work due to the cord behind the cabinet.
I need the switch in front. not in the rear, certainly there is a way to by pass safely , i do have a general idea how this works.
It will probably require a fuse too, i did find a lamp rotary switch that can be mounted in side the unit.
or a lit rocker switch
Sorry but to anyone even slightly familiar with electrical wiring, this should be completely obvious.
i.e. If you have to ask, you shouldn't be attempting this yourself - not based on instructions you read from Y!A, anyway. There are a lot of subtleties to this work that help ensure electrical safety. They are extremely important when you're dealing with household line voltage. They need to be second nature to you, not something you just read from a web site. Otherwise you could be killed from electric shock, or you could burn your house down.
Get a power strip with a switch. Plug the EQ into that and the power strip into the wall. Use the switch on the power strip.
Or... if your receiver or amplifier has switched power outlets on the back, use one of those.
Edit - added: It's easy to sketch on a schematic: Break one of the leads from the power cord and put the switch in series. In practice you need to splice in some wires long enough to reach the front panel. Do you know how to do that in a manner safe for line voltage, and safe to be left alone, unseen, inside your device for years? Same concern re. the connections to the switch?
You also have the issue of running line voltage through a pair of relatively long wires inside a gadget handling line-level audio... there may be hum pickup problems.
You want to be sure to break the hot side of the power line with your switch (or break both sides and use a double pole switch... if you have a lighted switch you'll need to run the neutral to where the switch is anyway).
I wouldn't use a switch intended for a lamp on audio equipment, either. The lamp is not an inductive load, your gadget is (slightly).
