Cordless rotary tools

I have an LED, how can I measure Forward Voltage using a multimeter?
My multimeter does have a diode symbol, but it is in the same selection as one that looks like the wireless signal on a compter. The manual simply says "set the rotary switch at the diode F range position"
To use diode function set switch to position shown in manual then press the function button on the Fluke 177 the function button is on the right and coloured yellow. The second functions at each position including the diode are also coloured yellow. Set to wireless signal this is actually beep test for testing fuses press yellow button and display shows the diode symbol on left. Press yellow button again meter goes back to beep test.
on the diode setting put leads across LED forward bias shows voltage on meter reverse bias shows OL
