PS3 Yellow Light? Here's How You Can Fix It!
So, it finally happened! You went to start playing your favorite games and all you got was a PS3 yellow light instead. So what can you do? There are a number of options at your disposal. Hopefully, the PS3 yellow light is just being caused by a bad cord or a poorly inserted hard drive. Before you cash out 150 dollars and send it into Sony, here are your options when it comes to fixing it:
Troubleshoot the PS3 Yellow Light Problem
This means taking the PS3 and switching out cables, hard drives, and any attachments to see if the system works when a particular part is removed or replaced. The PS3 yellow light is often caused by a bad cable or hard drive. Here's what you should try:
-Remove the cables and reinsert them
-Try a friend's cables to see if yours are faulty
-Remove the hard drive, then reinsert it to see if your PS3 starts again
If your PS3 still does not work after this, then chances are you have a hardware problem which is going to need more attention to fix. Someone is going to have to look under the hood!
Have Sony Fix the PS3 Yellow Light Problem
Sony is very good about fixing a PS3 yellow light. They are sure to get your console back in one piece and make sure that you are gaming on it again as opposed to having to buy a new one. The only problem is, this procedure can cost you 150 dollars and take 4-6 weeks just to have done! No one wants to pay that much and wait that much if it isn't necessary. The good news is, in most cases it isn't. While sending the console in is the most reliable and foolproof way to have it repaired, there is one more way you can get the console repaired that can save you a lot of money and have you gaming again the very same day.
Fix the PS3 Yellow Light Yourself with a D.I.Y. Guide
Oddly enough, there are a ton of great online guides on how to fix a PS3 yellow light available online. These guides offer full, detailed diagrams, high definition videos, mind maps, troubleshooting guides for every possible problem, and great customer support.
A lot of people reading this are probably thinking that it would be hard to fix a PS3 without a significant amount of experience and technical knowledge of the console. Truth is, a PS3 can be fixed in under an hour with simple household items such as a screw driver and pliers. You don't need any fancy knowledge or equipment to fix your PS3, just the need to do so and a few simple tools to get you started.
At the end of the day, it's a lot better than paying 150 dollars and waiting six weeks to get your console fixed by Sony. No one wants to resort to that! Overall the D.I.Y. guides are the best option and I highly recommend getting one for yourself.

Difference between component video cables and regular yellow cable?
Is there an actual difference between component video cables (green, blue, red) and the 'old' yellow video cable, for a TV that doesn't support HD, but does have component inputs? Primarily, with my Xbox 360's graphics.
Regarding Xbox360, you will notice a significant difference between composite (yellow) and component (red, green, blue). Composite is lower quality and resolution than component. Componet will be higher resolution, sharper edges and vivid colors.
Since your TV does support component, you should be able to receive 480i and maybe 480p format. If you are planning on buying an HDTV in the future, I would think that purchasing an HD AV cable would be a worthy investment.
BTW, to the poster who thinks only HDTVs have component inputs. SDTV and EDTVs often have component inputs because SD is 480i and ED is 480p.
